On World Children’s Day, we’re proud to launch Discover Housing, a campaign that supports children’s right to education, aspiration, and opportunity.
We believe every child deserves the chance to dream big and see a future full of possibilities. That’s why we’re setting off on an ambitious journey to help 10,000 children discover careers in housing, unlock their potential and strengthen the communities of tomorrow.
Housing is about so much more than bricks and mortar. It’s about creating safe, thriving communities where people can flourish. Yet for many children, the idea of a career in housing isn’t even on their radar. We want to change that.
What is Discover Housing?
Our new Discover Housing campaign aims to bring together 100 housing partners and 100 primary schools across the country. Together, we’ll open doors to the Housing Sector, showing children the diverse and rewarding careers on offer.
We’ve already seen the impact this kind of work can have. In 2024–25, more than 11,500 children took part in our aspirationsbased learning programmes across 275 schools, generating over £7 million in social value.
Now, we’re building on that success with a strong, sector specific campaign backed by the Chartered Institute of Housing and the National Housing Federation.
Why start early?
Children as young as seven make career decisions based on people they know. They also begin to form stereotypical opinions around certain careers which can limit their aspirations.
By embedding careersled learning into the primary school curriculum, we can broaden horizons before choices become fixed.
As our Founder and Managing Director, Lesley Burrows, explains:
“A warm, safe home is the foundation of a healthy, happy life, which is why housing partners are perfectly placed to create opportunities where they are needed most. Discover Housing builds on this commitment through early intervention, starting the journey sooner to support better outcomes in life, learning, and work.”
How does it work?
Through Discover Housing, each housing partner will support one primary school in their community for two years. Children will meet real housing professionals, hear their stories, and take part in meaningful learning experiences that connect the classroom to the world of work.
This campaign is about more than careers. It’s about social mobility, confidence, and hope. By acting early, we can inspire the next generation of leaders and changemakers in our neighbourhoods and workplaces.
Join us on the journey
We’re calling on housing organisations to join us in shaping brighter futures. Together, we can unlock children’s self-belief and potential and highlight housing as a career of choice.
