Was The Greatest Showman’s Success Always Written In The Stars?

You know the movie, you’ve sung the songs but did you know that The Greatest Showman didn’t have the best start when it was released?

Critical Critics

Bad Review for the Greatest Showman

The Telegraph awarded the movie two stars and described it as “being completely and utterly bibbly bibbly quack-quack insane”. The Evening Standard described the movie as being “a load of big top baloney.”

So how did it become one of the most successful box office hits of all time?

Well, as the song says, “When the sharpest words wanna cut me down, I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out…” the movie did just that and the floods of people who love the movie drowned the critics out. The Greatest Showman ended up taking £435 million at the box office.

But what does this have to do with Positive Footprints, I hear you ask?

Well…

Look at what you can achieve when someone is cheering you on. If someone is on your side, supporting you, telling you that you can do it, that gives you what you need to succeed. But we know that not everyone has that.

There are children who don’t have someone cheering them on. There are children who are told they can’t do things. There are children who don’t know what’s out there because they haven’t been told. You only know what you know and that’s why it’s so important to open up the world of work so that children know what’s out there and what they can achieve.

It’s an important message for children (and adults alike). The world is a blank canvas and you have the paints, you just have to start painting.

Children can rewrite the stars

Children start to think about their careers at the age of seven. You can read more on that because we’ve written a blog all about it here! It’s important that children know they have the capability to do whatever they want and that it doesn’t matter where they come from or what others say.

This is what our award-winning, Ofsted recognised programme does – it opens up the world of work, raises aspirations, builds resilience and develops knowledge and skills for the future.

The programme is designed to give children the necessary skills they need to lead positive lives and gives them the confidence and capabilities to reach for the stars. After all, they can do anything they put their minds to.

If you like the sound of our programme and want to learn more why not get in touch? We’d love to tell you more about the programme.
