Wrapping up for Christmas

“It calms me down because I thought it was gonna be stressful. It makes me feel happy and relaxed ready for when I grow up and get a job.”

– Elise, Year 6 – East Yorkshire

What better way to finish the year than seeing the positive impact our network is having on pupils who feel their happiness and confidence increasing!

We’ll be taking a short break over the holiday period, with our office closing from 4pm on Friday 22nd December 2023. We’ll return at 9am on Tuesday 2nd January 2024 ready to shape even more brighter futures for children and young people – See you in 2024!

Christmas Competition Update

Thank you to everyone who has sent in entries for our Careers at Christmas competition. ‘Santa’ has had some very persuasive letters and he will be getting his elves together to judge the competition soon. Prizes and certificates will be sent out to the lucky winners in the New Year. He also wanted to share a few of the fabulous entries received so far…

A Pupil from Woolton Primary School in Liverpool has applied to be the ‘Good and Naughty List Manager’!

Dear Father Christmas, I’m writing to you because I would like you to recruit me to be your Good list and Naughty list manager. When I say I’m good at making lists, I mean it. If you recruit me I will NOT let you down. I will be the best list manager ever! Also I’m great with kids so if they’re on the naughty list I can let them down gently. If you expect this letter I will make you proud. I’ve loved you since I was a kid so it will be a pleasure to work with you and I get to have a special role in life and it will be a story to tell my kids they will love it I’m telling you now. Please, please, please.”

A Pupil from Greatwood Community Primary in Skipton is keen to become a Trainee Toymaker and sent in our first Braille entry!

Dear Santa. I am writing to apply for the post of trainee toy maker. I think I would be excellent at this job because I am very passionate about making things. One of my hobbies that I have been developing recently is sewing. I have made many toys including: a dog, several cats, a rabbit, a fish, two dolphins, an octopus and two cows. I think these toys would appeal to a wide age range of children. I am creative and enjoy making 3D sculptures out of cardboard, drawing pictures, making dolls houses and making jewellery out of loom bands. I have a good imagination and am always thinking up new ideas. I enjoy writing stories and illustrating them too. I am a good team player – I show this when I go bell ringing – having to listen to others and to come in at the right point. I am good at communicating – I am learning touch typing and I can braille too. I think all these skills make me the perfect trainee toy maker and I look forward to hearing from you.”

Another Pupil from Scartho Junior Academy in Grimsby has applied to be Santa’s Personal Chef!

“Dear Santa Clause. I would love to be Santa’s Chef because I have lots of experience of cooking because it is my passion and I am determined to try my hardest to be independent. I am hardworking and kind. Therefore, you will never regret hiring me.”

It’s simply amazing to see pupils across our Network explore their skills and think about how they could apply those skills in their futures!
